Melitta Coffee Machines
It was German housewife Melitta Bentz who came up with the simple, yet brilliant invention of the first coffee filter in 1908. The 35 year old from Dresden was fed-up with brewing coffee and then trying to avoid swallowing the grounds. So she borrowed some blotting paper from her son, and placed it in the base of a copper pot she had poked some holes through. The coffee was filtered through the blotting paper to remove the grinds, leaving Frau Bentz with a grind-free pot of coffee. A patent was filed on the design and within a couple of years she had set up shop with her husband and two sons. Over the years the design of this filter changed dramatically and by the 1930s had transformed into the triangular folded shape we know today.
As a company, Melitta carried on the tradition of producing outstanding coffee products and produced their first electric coffee machine in 1965. Today Melitta are world-renowned for their filters, filter and pour over coffee machines and accessories. In a highly-automated, gadget led world, theres something hugely appealing to this simple and manual method of making a great tasting cup of coffee.
In 2017 Melitta became the official coffee partner for Manchester United. Providing coffee for players, guests and fans alike in the VIP boxes, restaurants and Red Cafe at Old Trafford as well as the clubs training complex and offices.
