The Nespresso Creatista from Sage

The Nespresso Creatista and Creatista Plus from Sage by Heston Blumenthal take Nespresso coffee machines to a whole new level. The Creatista perfectly combines Nespresso’s coffee expertise and coffee pod system convenience with advanced milk technology and cutting edge styling from Sage. It is also the first Nespresso coffee machine to feature a fully automatic steam wand. With total control over how you want your milk textured and at what temperature, you can release your inner Barista and create your very own latte art.

Two of the key features of a Nespresso coffee machine are its simplicity to use and the speed that it can create a cup of coffee. The new Nespresso Creatista continues this tradition. Although it’s a little more high-tech than most Nespresso machines.

The Creatista uses an intuitive digital display screen that’s controlled by a selection knob and button. Scroll through the menu to select which type of drink you want – Lungo, Espresso, Ristretto, Latte Machiato, Cappuccino, Café Latte or Flat White. Next select the coffee volume and then, if your chosen drink requires milk you can select its texture and temperature giving you complete control over your drink.

Current Nespresso machines are hardly sloth-like when it comes to warm-up times. Thanks to their Thermoblock technology you normally only have to wait around 30 seconds before they are ready to dispense their silky smooth caffeine delights. The new Creatista ups the ante to a new level. Start-up time is a speedy 10 seconds. The Creatista Plus surpasses that with a blistering 3 second start-up time.

The introduction of a fully automatic steam wand is what sets the Creatista apart from other Nespresso ‘with milk’ coffee machines. Their Aeroccino milk frothers can heat milk but without any control over temperature. They can also create a lovely frothy foam, but without actually texturing the milk. Not so with the Creatista and Creatista Plus. Using the same steam wand technology that can be found in The Oracle, Sage by Heston Blumenthal’s flagship coffee machine, the Creatista gives you full control over how you want your drink.

The Creatista has four different auto-frothing textures and five milk temperature settings. The Creatista Plus has eight auto-frothing textures and 11 milk temperature settings. Again, these settings are controlled through the digital display. Place your milk in the stainless steel milk jug that’s provided with the machine, set your desired texture and temperature settings. Then place the jug under the frothing wand and the machine will do the rest. The best thing is you’ll get perfect results every time. Yes, you choose how you want your milk to be textured and heated, but as it’s an automatic procedure, there won’t be any chance of human error.

This clever steam wand even self-purges after each use, so all you have to do is give the wand a quick wipe down with a clean damp cloth.

High quality finish and attention to detail

Sage by Heston Blumenthal are renowned for their high quality electrical appliances. Whether it be a toaster, kettle or food processor their attention to detail is second to none. Each machine is packed full of intuitive and intelligent features and made from premium materials. Not surprisingly the Creatista and Creatista Plus are no exception. The Creatista has a high gloss painted finish (in either Royal Champagne or Liquorice Black) with chrome detailing. The Creatista Plus has a beautiful brushed stainless steel finish with chrome detailing.

Neat little touches like the pop-out cup tray and the soft-return steam wand add to the quality feel and look of the Creatista coffee machine.

Get Creative with Latte Art

The ability of the Nespresso Creatista to texture your milk means you can release your inner Barista and create your very own latte art. Your smooth silky coffee becomes the canvas on which you can paint a masterpiece with your textured milk. With a little practice you’ll be creating Tulip, Rosetta and Heart designs to impress friends and family. For the best milk froth always use fresh whole or semi-skimmed milk that’s straight from the fridge. Then it is just a matter of practice, practice, practice! At least your coffee will taste great even if your latte art might need improvement.

If I had to choose between the two models, the Nespresso Creatista Plus would be the one I’d plump for. To be honest, there’s very little to choose between the two. Yes, you get a few more milk temperature and texture options with the Creatista Plus. And don’t forget the Formula 1 pit stop performance three second warm-up time. But I’m a sucker for a brushed stainless steel finish and this, coupled with polished chrome detailing, puts the Nespresso Creatista Plus at the top of my kitchen gadget wish list.
