Denby Greenwich

Denby Greenwich is a popular range by which features a bold hardwearing glaze. The rich sea greens of this Greenwich collection make a strong and bold statement. Handcrafted to the highest possible standard and manufactured at Denby Pottery in Derbyshire.

Over 200 years of top quality craftsmanship

Denby’s long heritage of beautiful and durable tableware stretches back to the industrial revolution. Time-honoured skills and traditional hand-crafting techniques that have been honed over the intervening years are still very much in use today. In fact during the production process each item will pass through at least 20 pairs of hands before receiving the Denby stamp of approval.

Raw materials, such as the iron-rich clay, are sourced locally. The all-important natural slip is made from a combination of this clay and water. Craftsman’s moulds are used to form the items which are then biscuit fired. After this first firing the stoneware is ready to be decorated by skilled craftsmen and women. Using traditional time-honoured skills the stoneware is then hand-dipped in unique glazes (the ingredients of which are a closely guarded secret) before a final glost firing gives Denby stoneware its strength and durability.

Greenwich Range

Established in 1994, Denby Greenwich is inspired by the intensity of emerald jewels. A flamboyant and sophisticated green, Greenwich will add wow-factor to any setting. Happy enough as a stand-alone colour, it can also be used as a statement colour when teamed with the more clement Regency Green. The Denby Greenwich range includes tableware and serveware plus a matching range of glassware.

Denby Greenwich tableware features

The versatility of Denby Greenwich stoneware means it can be used both in a microwave or oven to warm or cook food. It is also fridge and freezer safe which is great when storing food. Being dishwasher safe makes for easy cleaning. Denby Greenwich tableware is equally at home being used for special occasion dining (think dinner parties and celebrations) as it is for everyday use (family meals, weekday suppers and weekend breakfasts). Thoughtful design has also gone into many of the items - coffee cups which are sized to fit under modern coffee pod machines and oblong dishes that are just the right width to accommodate a sheet of lasagne (no more snapping sheets in half to fill in the gaps!) Many Denby items also have dual uses. A pasta bowl for example can be used as a baking dish. The sugar bowl is perfect as a ramekin or to serve nibbles in.

Caring for your stoneware

Look after your Denby Greenwich tableware and it will serve you well for many years. Make sure to rotate the order plates and bowls are stacked so you are not always using the same few items, wearing them out more quickly than the rest. Avoid extreme fluctuations in temperature to avoid thermal shock (the stress imposed on the stoneware can cause cracks or fractures). Where possible heat up or cool down the stoneware gradually. To avoid possible discoloration of your Denby Greenwich tableware from continued dishwashing we would recommend hand washing.
