Saute Pan

A saute pan is similar to a frying pan, with a typically large cooking surface, and often includes a lid. However, unlike frying pans or skillets it has straight, vertical sides. This therefore allows for a greater volume of food or liquid to be contained within.

One of the benefits of saute pans is therefore that they are easier and less messy to use when cooking greater amounts as the straight sides ensure less spillage when you stir. As a result, sauté pans are often used when cooking saucy dishes that contain a lot of liquid, though their versatility means they can be used for a wide range of kitchen tasks. From searing or braising meat, to cooking fish or vegetables, or curries, a sauté pan is an incredibly useful pan.

Sauté Pan Features

We stock a wide range of sauté pans with a range of features. Many have a non stick coating which makes them perfect for tasks like frying or browing meat or simmering sauces as it will prevent any food from sticking. If you use metal utensils then you may want to consider a stainless steel pan without a non stick coating. Many saute pans are also oven safe to a certain heat, meaning they can go straight from the hob to the oven. This is ideal for cooking casseroles or similar dishes which may require initial cooking on the hob before a final cook in the oven to finish. If you have an induction hob you may want to check whether your preferred saute pan is compatible, but most will be suitable for use on all hob types.

Lots of the saute pans that we sell come with a lid included to help retain moisture when cooking. This will prevent your sauce from reducing too much, or your dish from drying out. A lid is especially useful if you are intending to finish dishes in the oven.

If you're looking for alternative pans in which to sauté or for searing, frying, or creating sauces then you may also want to consider a chefs pan. For other oven safe pans for simmering, creating casseroles or stews take a look at our range of casserole dishes.
