The Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival takes place this year on 10th and 11th September and is one of the town’s biggest annual events. With its humble beginnings in 1999, the Cheese Festival has grown to become the festival we know today. Here at Harts of Sturwe are proud to be sponsoring the Mousetrap theatre. Over the two day festival we have some great cooking demonstrations and fun events for you to enjoy. Leading up to this great event, we will be introducing each of our guest demonstrators that will be appearing on stage at the Mousetrap Theatre.

About Steve

Tell us a little bit about Oxford’s Bakery?

Oxford's bakery are the original artisan bakers in Dorset. The property was originally purchased by my great grandfather Frank in 1911 and the bakery is still to this day producing breads and buns daily. As well as the main bakery, there are several high street bakeries and later this year, we will be opening a new bakery in Sturminster Newton. We also run many bread making and patisserie courses all taught by myself.

Can you tell us what you enjoy about the Cheese festival?

Several things stand out about the Cheese Festival. Firstly it is the quality of the produce on offer. It's almost unbelievable that, in the middle of the football pitch, tucked away in Sturminster Newton, one of the best food festivals in the UK happens! Also the atmosphere, not just the relaxed atmosphere of the visitors, but from the traders too. It's like a reunion every year for me. I get to shake hands with business friends and acquaintances and see how everyone's doing. It used to be like that at all the major shows a long time ago, but you don't see it as much these days. Sturminster has a bit of magic about it.

What is your favourite Cheese?

It changes for me, Cheddar wise it is always Westcombe, I have a bit of an allegiance there though. I've grown very fond of English soft cow’s milk cheeses recently, and I usually strike a bread and cake based deal with Dave Bartlett from Wootton organic for a bit of theirs!

What would your ideal job be if you weren't doing what you are now?

I love presenting and speaking (see you in the mousetrap!) and was originally a music DJ, so I would have to be either in the music industry, teaching or presenting. I’ve grown to love the teaching aspect of my job, after years of running the artisan bread and patisserie courses at out bakery!

When and Where?

You will be able to see Steve on stage at the Mousetrap Theatre on Saturday 10th September at Noon and again on Sunday at 3pm. Please come along and we hope you enjoy the Cheese Festival.
