Irons There are many different styles of irons nowadays, but it’s still all about personal feel when selecting an iron. Some prefer a lightweight small simple iron, others prefer a large heavy iron with lots of different functions. These functions can include variable steam settings, steam burst for stubborn creases and vertical steaming for garments and curtains.

The ironing plate on conventional irons are designed to glide smoothly over materials, some have ultra-glide technology and most have different temperature settings for most materials types like wool, silk, cotton and synthetics. Irons that hold water for spray and steam will vary in capacity from 200-350ml. Other irons come complete with a separate water tank that can feed the iron with steam for longer, these can vary between 1-2 Litre capacities.

Cordless irons work by feeding power to a heating plate, soon as the iron is docked the iron will raise to temperature, after removing it for a short time, the iron will need to be re-docked to bring back up to temperature. These cordless irons allow extra freedom of movement as there is no cable to get in the way.

Fans are available in a variety of sizes and colours.

Steamers Garment steamers are a handled device that is used for steaming items like curtains and hanging clothing, especially useful when you are away from home. Steaming is great for freshening up garments when travelling and great for removing odours and wrinkles, although these handheld steamers hold a small amount of water, it is usually enough for a couple of items.

Larger garment steamers are a standing device that includes a hanger for hanging jackets, shirts and trousers, for easier steaming. These will hold more water in a tank at the base, but will also have a long tubed steamer on the end for hand direction control.
